The library

The Library of La Coria houses approximately 13,000 cataloged items, in addition to around 7,000 volumes deposited in the Convent of La Coria that are still awaiting inclusion.

Its collection was formed from an initial holding from the library of Xavier de Salas, expanded since 1983 through grants and donations. It consists primarily of general reference works and includes collections dedicated to Extremadura, Latin America, and history, among which a collection of books on the Spanish Civil War stands out. The Latin American holdings also reflect the historical interest that various programs of the Foundation have shown in the study of cultural relations between Spain and the Americas.

Following the death of Carmen Ortueta, widow of Xavier de Salas, the general library assembled by Javier Ortueta and Xavier de Salas himself was also moved to the Convent: nearly 7,000 volumes belonging to three generations of readers, preserved in a special room with their original shelves. This collection is of particular bibliographical interest because it includes first editions of authors from the Generation of '98.

In addition to these holdings, there is Carmen Ortueta's personal library, specializing in history, and the collection of Jaime de Salas, composed primarily of works on philosophy and estimated at around 5,000 volumes.

The Library's cataloged holdings use the Knosys system.

"A historic space transformed into a contemporary meeting place for thought, culture and creation."
